10-03-10 We are learning about time and temperature i would like to learn more about timezone because it is fascinating how they work Great attitude Ethan. We will be looking at time zones as part of our learning. Mrs Breeds. 15-03-10
We are learning about different time zones around the world and how to calculate time differences.
Today I learnt how to calculate the time zones around the world. I enjoyed this because now I know more about timezones around the world. The timezones are based on greenwich mean time (GMT) makes all the different timezones. is the country was on the left of England the time is behind GMT if it is to the right then it is ahead of the GMT time. A clear explanation. You could then have given an example of the time difference between NZ and another country. 19-03-10
WALT: we are learning about exchange rates for currency.
If I have $400 NZ and exchange it in France when the currency is 0.4935 to NZ you would need to times 400 by 0.4935 and then you will have your exchanged amount:197.4 France currency. A good example Ethan. 19-03-10
WALT: we are learning about the difference between Celcius and Fahrenheit for temperature Did you run out of time? yes i did 25-03-10
W.A.L.T: Use algebraic thinking to solve decimal subtraction problems. I think that it is a really good way of working out subtraction problems that have decimals E.G 7.47-5.98 +.02 to both sides that make it 7.49 - 6 = 1.49.
Ethan I am pleased you like this strategy. It is a very useful strategy that you can use to solve complex subtraction problems. TC

WALT. Use temperature as a strategy to help us add and subtract intergurs.
E.G +7- -9 = 16 you have positive 7 degrees then you take away 9 degrees of cold and you end up with 16 warm degrees You have learnt something today Ethan-Great! How do you feel about using this strategy? Does it make the concept easier to understand? TC

WALT: Find out what we know, what we think and we dont know about different problem solving strategys. 26-04-10
WALT: Today i found out how to use a histogram and that a histogram also uses continuous data and it is very useful. Glad that you think so Ethan. Can you explain the difference between continuous data and discrete data?
Discrete data is data that you have to count and you cant change. Continuous data is data that is a range and it has to be measured

Today i learnt that the surveys are really boring and easy but it was alright in the end. 20-05-10
Today i saw my olimpiad results and i am a little disappointed about my results so what i could do better next time is actually count what i have done and work alot more. How about testing your answers with another strategy? This will often pick up those little mistakes. 27-05-10
Today we did the otago problem solving I got my new high score... 3!!! i made my mistakes on the 4th and 5th question
but i am still happy. Tell me what you were happy about....it was a good result but I'd like to see you go that step further and do some work on developing these problem solving strategies.
